Cityrail makes foreign tourist feel unwelcome

Another CityRail Fail

Trains at Victoria St StationOn 6 July I blogged about how the station employee at Towradgi in the Illawarra 'banned' a train enthusiast from taking photos on the platform.

It happens quite frequently, as evidenced by this email to the 'ausloco' Yahoo Group on 18 July:

I was at Victoria St Station that day from about 9.30 to 12.00. Would anyone have the loco numbers for trains at that time. Busy peering through the viewfinder. Did get one perfect running meet though; empty and full coal.

By the way not allowed to film from station platform, only from footbridge.  Is this the situation at all NSW stations?  Helpful to know so I dont upset anyone.

Cheers
Andrew from NZ

An extended discussion followed on Ausloco, including one correspondent pointing out that it is written into Hansard of the State Parliament of NSW that it is not an offence to take a photograph on a train or at a station.

Here is the link to Hansard in State Parliament that shows there is no basis whatsoever for 'banning' photography from railway station platforms.

Are the platform staff being over zealous or trying to make themselves believe they have more authority than they do?
