Another archival shot! This Kodachrome slide was taken on 11 November 1991 and portrays Clyde-GM locomotive 8123 riding the turntable at Broadmeadow roundhouse, near Newcastle, NSW. The loco depot was closed in the last 15 years. The locomotive is now in FreightRail Blue (the livery that succeeded this "candy" livery) and 81s are rarely used en masse on Hunter Valley coal trains. 8123 was built in September 1983 at Clyde, Kelso (near Bathurst), builder's number 83-1042. People laugh at gunzels, but every everyday occurrence we photograph is tomorrow's history.
